August 2007 60Kw generator added to the PML range extending generator family This month PML will begin production of the ultra compact 60kW range extending generator for a major European car manufacturer. The new highly advanced vehicle will be unveiled by the manufacturer at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show this September. The new 60Kw generator comes in a package size envelope of only 356mm diameter and 170mm long and includes the full invertor and power electronics inside the generator! Complete generator and electronics pack weighs only 45kg giving a superb 1.5kW/kg output. The PMG (Permanent Magnet Generator), will be water cooled and uses the same internal design components as the direct drive In wheel motor Hi-Pa Drive™. Producing 288vdc at 4000rpm the battery size requirement for the vehicle is massively reduced and range limitless. The new generator is the 3rd size designed by PML and follows the 16kW PMG used in the Mini QED and a 5Kw PMG for another automotive customer.       16kW PMG            5kW PMG Each PMG is wound to suit the optimum fuel efficient running point of the engine. With the modular assembly construction and winding flexibility PMG's can be produced to match with virtually any engine type and any power output.
